Rock started Back Creek Books in 1995. He do not have an open shop but sells his books by appointment, online, and through an arrangement at the Historic Annapolis Museum Shop here in Annapolis. He specializes in books on the Annapolis, Maryland, and the Chesapeake Bay region in general, Washington, DC, military and naval history, Americana, nautical and maritime subjects. Oh yeah, and Abraham Lincoln. He's a native Californian who went east instead of west as a young man, and has lived in Annapolis for about 15 years. In his adult life, he has worked as an accountant, a property manager, a mule packer for an outfitter in Idaho, manager of the Barnes & Noble here in Annapolis, and, lastly, owner of Back Creek Books. Next to pulling a pack string, owning his own bookselling business has been the most interesting. Rock has written for the local Annapolis paper, the Capital Gazette, but has not written anything for publication in a couple of years -- until now.
